MATCHING GRANT-VILLAGE SCHOOL$16000
Project ID : MG-3/2008
ID Allotted by TRF:Awaited
Category : School/Education Projects
District No.: 3140
Rotary Club Of : Mumbai Dahisar
Location : THANE, Maharashtra, India, 6011
Description : Proposed Project – Summarizing Goals and Objectives:

Rotary club of Mumbai Dahisar has adopted three schools in a village at Naigaon. The schools are Rajawali J P School, Tiwri J P School and Waghranpada J P School. They are situated at Rajawali P O, Naigaon (East), Dist.Thane. These are primary schools from 1 to VI standard. More than 80% to 90% children studying in this school are from very poor adivasi community.
Presently in the above school the children are sitting for more than 6 hours on the cemented floor and do not have benches to sit while attending the class. Since it is very essential for the students to comfortably sit in the class room for getting value education and promote literacy and education in rural areas.

How the project will benefit the community and / or improve the lives of the less fortunate.

Population of about 2000 adivasi family residing in about 5 kms radius have only the above schools to send their children for education .The above school does not have the facilities like study benches in the class room, Cupboards, Chairs, Library, Pure drinking water facilities etc, The schools gives education to more than 500 needy and deserving adivasi students who are studying in the above school. Although this project has remained on our list of priorities in attempting to fill this void we fall short in our efforts for lack of adequate funds. The Rotary Foundation District Simplified Grant of US$3000 has come as a shot in arm and it will fulfill the much needed demand of needy students.

This is an effort from Rotary Club to provide them such facilities.

Participation by Rotarians in the project (i.e. Rotarian activities)

This project will also involve active participation of members of the club in educating the students about the importance of the project thereby orienting them more towards Rotary service activities. The Rotarians will actively participate in providing assistance to children and help them in all the activities. This will also bring to light the number of children using these facilities and would help us measure and plan as well as monitor the usage of the facilities.

Objective

Our objective is to provide basic and proper facilities to promote literacy and education in rural areas.

PR for Rotary

The club will project Rotary in proper light by featuring a permanent sign, plaque and inscribe “Sponsored by Rotary Club of Mumbai Dahisar,R I dist-3140” under District Simplified Grants programmes at the project site and also in each of the benches .This will identify and create awareness in public that the project is a Rotary sponsored project.

We will also publish the inaugural function of the project in newspapers and also invite all the local residents, Gram Panchayat office bearers, nearby adivasi villagers and other local community leaders, and also through distribution of handbills. We will also give details about the project in our monthly bulletin and send the write-up with photograph to district avenue chairman and district governor to be printed in the GML.

This will give tremendous exposure to Rotary Service projects and will build enormous goodwill among people for Rotary.

The proposed plan is to give the following to the schools.

1. Study benches and desk - 120 Nos. aprox

2. Library books & Storage Unit -

3.Desktop Computers with cabinets - 6 nos

4.Playing equipments - 5 nos

5. Pure drinking water facility. - 1 no
